Former England player Noel Whelan believes Egyptian star Mohamed Salah is worried about the levels of his Liverpool side and doesn’t rule out moving from Anfield next summer if a suitable offer arrives.
Salah signed a contract with Liverpool last July to keep him until the summer of 2025, and that signing made him the highest paid player on the red team.
After an unstable start to the season, Salah managed to make a comeback after the historic “hat-trick” he scored against Rangers in the Champions League, and on Saturday he scored his 11th goal during the current season against Leeds in the match that Liverpool lost 2-1.
Whelan told Football Insider: “Of course, the declining level presented by Liverpool worries Salah. Getting the league title this season is next to impossible and that could apply to other leagues.
He continued: I do not rule out that Salah will start thinking about his future again, it is true that the contract he signed in July is profitable from a financial point of view, but in the end, when the current season comes to an end, he will only be two years old, and this period does not mean a long commitment between the two sides.
Whelan followed the former Middlesbrough and Coventry City player: Salah is a legend and whatever happens, his place in the club’s history is preserved, and he is one of the greatest players to have worn the shirt of all time, but today his teammates and the level of the team will look at him and be worried, how will this situation continue?
He concluded: Salah can easily think: I can do better, I want a better challenge to get titles, and if a suitable offer arrives for a player of his level, he will definitely think about leaving.
