The head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, is no longer turning away from the deputy candidate for the presidency, Michel Moawad, but closer than ever. This is confirmed by all the meetings that Al-Beik conducts with political figures and businessmen in order to reach a solution to the presidential file.
First of all, it must be emphasized that Jumblatt and the head of the Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea, are not on the same wavelength. The last of Jumblatt to adopt the candidacy of the head of the “Marada” movement, Suleiman Franjieh, to show that the dialogue between Haret Hreik and Mukhtar was not interrupted, and what took place in Clemenceau, that is, in Jumblatt’s house a few days ago, confirms this.
Geagea, in the same appearance, confirmed that the relationship between him and Jumblatt proceeds on the basis of “every day his day.” This statement reflects Geagea’s inability to disrupt Jumblatt’s engines in order to prevent him from turning towards the other side, and also confirms that any upcoming settlement will not be without the Socialist President, even if it is in favor of Franjieh.
Three “presidential” names Jumblatt proposed to the party, his candidate Michel Moawad is not one of them, but in return it included Jihad Azour, despite Jumblatt’s knowledge that Azour is completely rejected by the party. So why did Al-Beik put Azour out and excluded his candidate Moawad? Note that the two men are rejected by Haret Hreik.
Jumblatt’s basket, which he presented to the party, also included the army commander, General Joseph Aoun. This name must be put forward by Jumblatt, for fear of any international-regional decision that brings the army commander as president, especially since there is information that talks about a quasi international consensus on the name of Joseph Aoun, who does not have a veto. it by the party.
The last names that Jumblatt placed in the hands of the party were former MP Salah Hanin, son of the late Edward Hanin. Here, it is necessary to reveal an incident that took place in one of the meetings that brought Jumblatt together with a businessman working for Franjieh. In this meeting, Jumblatt said to the businessman, who plays the role of mediator between Mukhtara and Benshaei: “If Franjieh reaches the presidency, let him remember Salah Hanin with a ministry.”
In conclusion, no one can predict what Jumblatt will do in the presidency, and it is not possible to predict the identity of the president who will win the votes of the “Democratic Gathering” bloc. And after all that was previously mentioned, it seems that we must abide by what Geagea said about the Beik, “Every day for its day.”
