Saints have to start with rookie quarterback against Dolphins

reading time: 2 min

The New Orleans Saints will start the Monday Night Football Game against the Miami Dolphins with rookie quarterback Ian Book. This is reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Book will replace Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian, who the Saints reportedly put on the COVID-19 list on Thursday.

Book, 23, who the team picked up from Notre Dame in the fourth round in April, will be New Orleans’ fourth starting quarterback this season. Book has yet to attempt a pass in the NFL.

The Saints started the year with Jameis Winston, but the former first pick Overall suffered a knee injury in Week 8 that ended his season. Siemian and Hill have played four and three games respectively since then, going 2-5 overall.

It’s unclear who will assist Book in Week 16 as New Orleans doesn’t currently have a quarterback in the practice squad.
