Saint-Paul wants to create its zero waste association

By Emma Gouaille

Saint-Paul, a small town of a thousand inhabitants, near Blaye, wants to embark on zero waste. The first meeting of the association is open to all

Last year, the municipality of Saint-Paul joined the “Zero waste” and “No more single-use plastic” programs of the Union for the collection and recovery of household waste (Smicval Libournais Haute Gironde).

But according to Mayor Jean-Pierre Duez, “for the moment, as in many municipalities, these directives are limited to municipal services”. To develop actions within the population, the municipality therefore had the idea of creating an association. It could be inspired by the one that exists in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, the Islands association.

Objective: to help users consume differently and to reduce the amount of waste, whatever it may be. From garbage to cardboard, including green waste.

Beyond the commune

Members of the association could meet monthly to learn more about waste management, share tips and also visit the Smicval sites. According to the town hall, ten people are already interested. The association is not intended to be reserved for Saint-Paulais.

The association’s constitution meeting will be held at the Saint-Paul multipurpose room on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 6 p.m.
