Saint-Paul-la-Coste: Ribbons for the decorations of the Romanesque church

After numerous efforts to restore the building and the painted decorations of the church of Saint-Paul-la-Coste, the building is honored with the 2020 Heritage Ribbons.

After the national award of the Geste d’Or, granted to the restoration of the cathedral of Alès (our edition of October 17), it is the painted decorations of the choir of the Romanesque church of Saint-Paul-la-Coste which come to be honored by receiving the departmental prize of the 2020 Heritage Rubans competition. A competition organized by the French Building Federation, the Association of Mayors of France, the Heritage Foundation … in order to promote exemplary heritage enhancement operations built.

The town of Saint-Paul-la-Coste is the only one in the Gard to have received this award, along with Mauguio, in the Hérault, and Toulouse, in the Haute-Garonne. The winning municipalities will receive a diploma and a plaque to affix to the honored building.

The application for the municipality was produced by the Friends of the Church association, led by Sabine Nicolas, who spared no effort or time to show the capacity for action of a small rural community. of the Cévennes.

Moreover, this one recalls how “The perseverance and determination of the association have earned it, in 2018, a letter of blessing from Pope Francis, for the work carried out in the church”.

From now on, the restoration of this place of worship and the obtaining of the Heritage Ribbons are a source of pride for the municipality, which will have the task of maintaining this old building, responsible for the history of the Cévennes.
