Saint Patrick’s Cathedral receives faithful this Palm Sunday

Today is an important day for Catholics in the city and around the world.

It is Palm Sunday, the date that celebrates the beginning of the last week of Lent, concluding with Easter Sunday.

Catholics receive palm leaves and blessings during religious services today.

Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem a week before his resurrection.

This video from last year shows the services that were held at the San Patricio Cathedral, where, due to the coronavirus, parishioners were not able to enter the cathedral for the celebrations.

Next Sunday is Easter Sunday.

Meanwhile, in New York City, Cardinal Dolan will officiate Palm Sunday Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The cardinal is scheduled to approach devotees at the church’s Fifth Avenue entrance to bless the palms before starting Mass later in the day.

The health protocols for the coronavirus will remain in force.

These include the capacity of 50% of those attending the mass and the mandatory use of masks.

Meanwhile, the Cathedral of San Juan El Divino will broadcast live, for the second consecutive year, its Palm Sunday mass.

The rector of the cathedral, the Reverend Clifton Daniel, is in charge of officiating the mass.

The faithful who wish to bless their palms will be able to approach the steps of the church maintaining the security protocols.
