Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône: two teenagers injured in an electric scooter accident

They paid dearly for their recklessness. Two teenagers aged 14 and 16 were victims of an accident while riding an electric scooter on Saturday afternoon in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône. They allegedly zigzagged and ran a red light before colliding with a motorist on Avenue du Château at around 3pm. The two young people were very seriously injured.

After medical care, the youngest was transported under motorized escort to Necker Hospital in Paris. His life was in danger. Before being transported, it appears that he was losing consciousness. The second teenager was transported as an emergency to Pontoise Hospital. The three passengers in the car did not have to be hospitalized.

The number of accidents involving electric motorized personal transport devices (EDPM), a category of vehicle that concerns electric scooters, is increasing sharply. In 2023, 42 drivers of these devices lost their lives in France compared to 35 in 2022. Between January 1 and December 31, 2023, 640 people riding these devices were seriously injured, an increase of +7%.

In July last year, a 37-year-old man died in an electric scooter accident on Rue de la Barre, in Enghien-les-Bains in Val-d’Oise. Without a helmet, his head had hit a car with which he had collided. He was pronounced dead at the scene, as emergency services were unable to do anything to save him.
