After his defeat at Issoudun (27-21), Saint-Léger continued, this Sunday, March 6, with a new complicated trip to the lawn of the third, Montluçon. This duel with a view to qualifying for the finals turned to the advantage of Montluçon (29-23), with a try scored at the very end of the game, while the ESL led 22-23. Frustrating, but the Léogartiens could console themselves with the defensive bonus, like in Issoudun.
Yet in front at the 76th ‘
Against the wind in the first period, at 14 for ten minutes after a card from Vangsaard, Saint-Léger suffered against the power of the forwards of Montluçon, who took the lead at the break (19-10). Martineau had launched the Nivernais well rewarding a good action in the advance of the backs. But Montluçon struck three times in the first period (12th, 26th, 35th’), to afford a nine-point lead at the break.
A new character test for Saint-Léger, traveling to Montluçon
With the wind at their back, Saint-Léger made up ground, thanks in particular to a strong try from Chagas (22-20, 63′). The ESL even took control thanks to the foot of Martineau (22-23, 76th ‘). But Montluçon benefited from the indiscipline of Léogartienne, and in particular a high tackle from Cristo (yellow card, 77’), to go for the test by piercing four tackles. And to win, logically with regard to the whole meeting.
