Saint Girons. After the vine festivals in Dijon, the Bethmalais prepare their Rite

The oldest popular arts festival in France, the vine festivals, took place at the beginning of July in Dijon, in Côte-d’Or. The organization is an emblematic manifestation of cultural heritage.

The Bethmalanese, but also all the cultures of the world were represented there. In total, 34 artistic ensembles including 15 foreign ensembles and 45,000 spectators were present for this major event in France.

In addition to showcasing their magnificent costumes and the music, songs and dances of Couserans, the Bethmalais animated the brand new International City of Burgundy gastronomy and wine. They had the millas specially prepared by Daniel Sirgant, butcher and caterer in Saint-Girons, tasted. From reliable sources, the visitors appreciated it very much.

Just back from Dijon, the preparation for the Rite festival has resumed. 250 foreign artists from seven countries will be present for three major shows in the Couseran capital. A dozen spectacular shows will also take place in the valleys of the entire Ariège department, from Saturday August 6 to Saturday August 13.

An exhibition “Bethmalais in painting” at the town hall of Saint-Girons will mark the group’s 115th anniversary and a folk concert-ball evening in Castillon-en-Couserans is organized on the last day of the festival, August 13, in association with the party cheese and honey. It will be dedicated to the Couserans oboe, to mark the 50th anniversary of the relaunch of this instrument by Les Bethmalais.
