The construction site of restoration of Pavilion of the Muette just reached a milestone.
Located in the heart of the national forest from Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines), the monument has been cleared of the scaffolding which has surrounded and covered it for many months and which concealed its facade.
The site whose destiny has been in the hands of Emmanuel Basse and Benoît d’Halluin since 2019, two real estate developers, founders ofEsprimmhas been under construction since 2020.
“A beautiful page in the resurrection of the Pavilion is turning”
“Watch your eyes: La Muette is undressing and you will rediscover her with her new stone dress and her brand new headgear,” they explain in their letter dedicated to the current project. It’s a beautiful page in the resurrection of the Pavilion that is turning, but there is still a lot to do: windows, woodwork, heating, flooring, landscaping…”
In January 2021, the Pavillon de la Muette was one of the two Saint-Germain sites selected, with the company iXblue, to benefit from the money from the France Relance plan.
As such, this site had to be able to count on State support of €412,000 to complete the second phase of the project.
The fierce fight against dry rot
The first major phase of this renovation mainly consisted in removing the dry rot from the building. This fungus, also called “wood leprosy”, has forced the owners to carry out heavy work.
“Given its presence in every corner of the Pavilion, we had to remove all the woodwork, floors and framework, in order to eradicate it completely: keeping traces of dry rot would have been like leaving tares grow in the middle of the good seed, and take the risk that it resumes its fatal bite. »
Fighting this fungus, for example, required the intervention of a specialized company, Battais, to inject treatment products.
“In this respect, our exorcist is called the Battais company, which applies itself to injecting treatment products penetrating up to 70 cm deep into the walls. This heavy operation has been repeated in all the rooms of La Muette and we now hope to be delivered from this diabolical invasive fungus. “.
Wrought iron gates in front of the south facade
On the outside, the site has also been equipped with wrought iron gates in front of the south facade of the Pavilion, “in extension of the majestic 7-kilometre bridle path that leads to the castle of Saint-Germain-en-Laye”.
The owners explain that these were designed “on the model of those in the park of the Palace of Versailles: alternating straight and twisted spikes, square section…,” before revealing a little secret: “Although attached to the charms of the past, we have succumbed to the pleasures of technology and made a serious concession to modernity by positioning a discreet buried electric motor to facilitate the opening of these heavy gates: let’s hope that the most purists among you will not hold it against us too much…”
Cultural partnership with the municipality of Saint-Germain-en-Laye
This installation was made with the help of the City of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, which put its hand in its pocket as part of a grant and cultural partnership agreement for the enhancement of the Royal Pavilion of mute.
This includes 2 parts: the allocation of a grant of €100,000 to the Société Muette Mécénat Culturel, owner of the premises, for the construction of a stone gate, wrought iron gates and the repair of the well .
The second component includes a cultural partnership authorizing the municipality “to enhance the royal pavilion by organizing cultural programs and heritage mediation and enhancement projects on the site”.
