The meeting gave rise to a contrast between two poor students of the Championship. Before the match, Saint-Étienne were bottom, Annecy 15th, Annecy residents had the worst attack and Stéphanois the worst defense in the table. From the 2nd minute, the Saint-Etienne dam gave way after a defensive absence by Anas Namri. After a big bridge on the left side of the opponent’s side, Maxime Bastian serves Moïse Sahi Dion who just needs to push the ball into the back of the net (2nd).
Laurent Batlles’ men tried to fight back, but Ibrahima Wadji and Lenny Pintor lost communication and trampled each other, as a result: the first shot over (22nd). 20 minutes later, the duo were again at the origin of a convincing situation, but Wadji’s medium control allowed Escales to close his corner well (42nd).
Good intentions, but considerable fragility behind them
After returning from the locker room, Moïse Sahi Dion doubled with great success (51st). The striker first hit Matthieu Dreyer, who cleared the ball feverishly, and Léo Pétrot did his best to clear the ball, but he hit Dreyer and fell right in front of… Sahi Dion. Once again the centre-forward was there in the right place and calmly offered himself a brace.
The last quarter of an hour could have been more beneficial for the Greens. Léo Pétrot was the first to start his revolt with a header after yet another mess in the box (76th). Two minutes later, Charbonnier was about to come on from the penalty spot for a central defender from Abdoulaye Sidibé, but a superb tackle by Temanfo saved Annecy (78th).
Despite a happy ending where the two blocks seemed to be cut in half, the score didn’t change. With 30 goals conceded in 16 games, Saint-Étienne are the worst defense in Ligue 2 and occupy the bottom of the table. Annecy goes top of the relegation zone and climbs up to 13th place.
