It is one of their highlights of the year, among a number of patriotic ceremonies in which they participate with always the same desire to perpetuate memory. This Sunday, October 8, the standard bearers celebrated their patron, Saint Denis. This is not the usual opportunity to put them forward. These men and women, all volunteers, often hidden by their heavy standard, held the top spot for a morning.
It was in Saint-Avold that they met, accompanied by around twenty students from the Sainte-Chrétienne school complex. The tradition, anchored in the territory for 22 years, is mainly played out in Moselle-Est. Each year, the ceremony changes location, taking with it its crystal trophy which also travels from town to village. “We give it to the mayor who welcomes us, and who will keep it for the following twelve months,” explains Marie-Laure Hoerth, president of the Association of flag bearers, military veterans and French patriots of Forbach Moselle-Est. Its motto ? “Duty, solidarity, transmission of memory. » Even if she admits it, “it’s harder and harder to recruit. We carry the values of the Republic. It is our duty to continue to pass them on. »
