In 1504 a crowned wooden statue of a woman was discovered growing into a hollow linden tree: the holy martyr Corona.
She was executed in 177 AD because of her Christian faith – and is still revered as the patron saint of lumberjacks and forest workers. That explains why the man-sized figure was found in a tree.
