Maintenance workers present at the weekend intervened quickly to try to stop the leak. But that was not enough, because it is the roof of the terrace that would have to be redone.
On Sunday afternoon, the emergency department was hit by a power cut for an hour, when the water must have hit the power cables. It is with the torch, where there is no natural light, that the caregivers had to take care of the patients.
The medical intensive care unit had to be evacuated. This could very quickly become problematic if the electricity were to fail: patients are often on a ventilator. They were transported to other intensive care units in Saint-Antoine or to other hospitals.
The nursing and substitute care teams have increased in number, some arriving at work earlier to allow transfers to take place in good conditions. Thanks to this mobilization, there were no dramatic consequences to deplore.
On the side of the government and the Public Assistance-Hospitals of Paris, the means available to public health are notoriously insufficient. There are no hires in the nursing services or in the technical services. There is a lack of equipment and the buildings are not maintained enough.
In recent years, the hospital has been affected by the flight of caregivers, unable to continue with worsening working conditions. Now the water leaks are on!
