New Delhi: Olympic and Commonwealth Games medalist Saina Nehwal will not participate in the National Badminton Trials. Apart from Saina, Malvika Bansod will also not participate in the rehearsals. The trials of the Asian Mixed Team Championship will be held in Dubai from 14 to 19 February.
Former world number 1 PV Sindhu and Akarshi Kashyap are on trial. The Badminton Association of India clarified that Ashmita Chaliha was invited to the trials in Saina’s place. Saina’s main challenge is the injury. Saina slipped to 31st in the world rankings as her form faded. Saina also did not participate in the Commonwealth Games trials held in April.
