Sailing: the next America’s Cup will take place in Barcelona in 2024


The organizers of the prestigious America’s Cup have announced that the next edition, the thirty-seventh, will take place in Barcelona in September-October 2024. This is the third time in history that the team competition will take place in Spain, after those organized in the port of Valencia in 2007 and 2011. A small revolution which continues to take place whereas, traditionally, this event, the oldest in the history of sport since it was born in 1851, takes place in the country of the title holder of the last edition.

However, these three Spanish editions, but also the one organized in Bermuda in 2017, testify to this rupture that is being created. Team New Zealand are double title holders after their triumphs in 2017 and 2021.

The city of Barcelona and Catalonia have communicated their pride in hosting the prestigious competition in their maritime territory, which will also host a women’s specification. Each team must indeed have an AC 40, a model used by women.
