Saihi satisfied with the progress of the project – Le Jeune Indépendant

The Algerian-Qatari-German hospital project is progressing well and constitutes a starting point for strengthening cooperation between Algeria and Qatar, particularly in the field of health. This was indicated by Abdelhak Saïhi, Minister of Health.

Saihi received, on Thursday, a delegation from the Estithmar Holding company of Qatar, headed by Mohammed Mohtaz Al-Khayyat, Chairman of the Board of Directors. This meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the ministry in the presence of the Qatari ambassador to Algeria, Abdelaziz Nema, and several executives of the central administration, aimed to follow the progress of joint projects between the two countries, particularly in the health sector, a statement from the ministry said.

During this exchange, Mr. Saïhi expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the Algerian-Qatari-German hospital project, an emblematic project of cooperation between the two countries. He stressed that this partnership, supported by “good governance” of the two countries, was the fruit of the joint efforts of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar. According to him, this project “constitutes a starting point for Qatari investment in Algeria”, with the hope that this dynamic will extend to other projects in various fields, thanks to the will shown by both parties.

Saihi also stressed the importance of meeting the deadlines set for the construction of the hospital, which must be completed before the end of 2026. He stressed his personal commitment to closely monitoring the progress of this project, noting its “vital importance” for improving health services in the country.

For his part, Mohammed Mohtaz Al-Khayyat welcomed the support of the Algerian authorities, stating that this was essential to “strengthen the Qatari presence in Algeria and ensure the success of the planned projects, particularly in the health sector.” He presented an intensive work schedule as well as a clear roadmap for the implementation of the Algerian-Qatari-German hospital project, affirming that “things are progressing well.”

Al-Khayyat added that the teams are actively working to recruit qualified medical personnel and to supply the necessary medical equipment to ensure that the hospital is operational within the scheduled time frame. He expressed confidence that, thanks to these efforts, the hospital will be completed and inaugurated as scheduled by the end of 2026.

At the end of the meeting, Al-Khayyat thanked all those who contributed to supporting this ambitious project, especially the Minister of Health and the executives of the central administration. He also extended an invitation to Mr. Saïhi and his staff to visit Doha to discover the Qatari health sector, especially international hospitals that use advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, particularly in the field of medical diagnosis.

This visit could also provide an opportunity to participate in scientific sessions and workshops, thus strengthening the ties between the two nations in the field of health. He stressed that this meeting illustrates the commitment of the two countries to work together to improve health infrastructure, meet the needs of the populations and create mutual investment opportunities, thus consolidating their bilateral relations.

As a reminder, the construction work on this health facility was launched with great fanfare at the end of August. On this occasion, project managers indicated that the hospital will be built on an area of 100,000 m2. With a capacity of 300 beds, 94% of which will be dedicated to medical care and 48% to surgical procedures, the hospital will include 30 intensive care units, 15 operating rooms, 40 outpatient clinics and 20 emergency areas.

This major medical project aims to bring together high-level medical expertise and cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment technologies in one place. The project also aims to address a wide range of specialized medical needs, including complex heart diseases, liver surgery, neurosurgery, spinal deformities, as well as oncological surgery and chemotherapy.
