The reason the healthcare system now sees older people as having the RS virus doesn’t necessarily mean that more people actually have the virus – it may also be because the type of virus has not previously been identified.
– It is possible that they have been affected before but that now when we search for covid we are more careful to type and see the virus, says Maria Tarnager.
Children are hit hard
Otherwise, it is children who are most affected by the RS virus.
Last week, up to 280 pediatric intensive care unit candidates were registered on the same day, many of them with the RS virus, according to Maria Taranger. This can be compared with previous figures of 170-180 applicants per day.
– They had a very difficult situation there, says Maria Taranger.
