Sahara dust leads to beautiful sunsets and possibly dirty cars this weekend | NOW

Of very high temperatures this weekend are accompanied by beautiful sunsets and sunrises. A cloud of Sahara dust is approaching the Netherlands and is moving over our country today and tomorrow. That creates red skies, Weerplaza reports to NU.nl. Later this weekend, the dust could “fall from the sky” from showers, contaminating cars.

This weekend’s sunsets and sunrises are much more colorful than usual due to the Saharan dust. This will be especially the case on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the Sahara dust will largely have passed through the Netherlands. The sun sets around 10 p.m. and rises around 5:20 a.m.

Sahara dust can reach the Netherlands after sandstorms in the African desert area. The dust can end up in the atmosphere up to many kilometers, after which an air current moves it from south to north.

With showers this weekend, the Sahara dust could come down. The Dutch can then find a layer of dust on the car, garden tables and chairs.

Meteorologist Wilfred Janssen of Weerplaza gives a tip not to wash the car these days. He does, however, immediately make a comment. “In heavy showers, it can also rain so hard that the dust often washes off the car again.”
