Saha: “If you don’t like Ronaldo as a teammate it’s because you’re not a worker” – Man. United

Louis Saha, former Manchester United player, spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United, as well as Bruno Fernandes and Éder, at an online event organized by SIGA, an organization that promotes integrity in sport.

“Solskjaer has to be very happy with his return, because he is an extraterrestrial. He can play for any team or league and will always score goals. He has that dedication and sacrifice that no one else has. And if there is a player with influence in the world, is Cristiano Ronaldo. I’m not just talking about football, but also about society. Many people are aware of what he does. He is a role model and an inspiration,” he began by saying.

About his relationship with the Portuguese international, Saha recalled that they always got along well: “My relationship with him was easy because we were both very hardworking. If you don’t like him as a teammate it’s because you’re not hardworking, as simple as that” , he said. “I would love to play with him today, because it’s impossible to defend him. At 90 minutes you feel he can still score a goal and if he has to score five in a game he scores. It’s a machine!”

Another Portuguese player who deserved the attention of the former French striker was Bruno Fernandes, who received a lot of praise. “I didn’t expect it to have such a big impact on the team. A midfielder has scored so many goals… it never happened. He gives a lot of confidence to the other players. Now he has another role and will sacrifice a little more for Ronaldo, but it’s a good formula, let’s say. He’s a team player and he was a great signing,” he stressed.

The striker was also asked about Éder’s goal against France, in the final of Euro 2016. “I was smiling, but I wasn’t happy (laughs). I love football and France in particular, but it’s the beauty of football. Portugal didn’t play that well during the Euro, but when you start with the right spirit, anything is possible,” he concluded.

The former French striker was Cristiano Ronaldo’s colleague at Manchester United between 2004 and 2008. He retired in 2013 and has since ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, supporting athletes and artists in their careers and founding Axis Stars. He is currently a partner and ambassador of SIGA, an international organization that promotes integrity in sport.
