SAG-AFTRA Strike: Film Studios Submit Offer to Union | Variety Report

The film studios’ organization has submitted an offer to the union for the striking Hollywood actors, SAG-AFTRA.

The studios hope the agreement can end the 113-day strike, report Variety.

SAG-AFTRA represents over 160,000 actors and other industry professionals.

Fran Drescher, perhaps best known from the TV series The Nanny, is the head of the actors’ union in Hollywood.

Critical to several TV shows and movies

The organization that represents the employers, AMPTP, has warned that an agreement must be concluded during the week.

If not, certain TV series may be stopped, and film premieres to the summer postponed.

Viewers will have to wait longer than planned to see the Avengers on the big screen again.

Long-awaited productions such as The Handmaid’s Tale, the Avengers films, the new Avatar film and an upcoming Star Wars film were already hit when the scriptwriters went on strike.

They have had the premiere date postponed for up to a whole year.

The Hollywood actors have been on strike since mid-July. They demand higher wages, revenues from streaming, and restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

The negotiations between the parties have broken down a number of times.

The screenwriters also went on strike, but an agreement was reached at the end of September.
