SAG-AFTRA Secures Over 120 Contracts: AI Protections Fuel New Agreements in Hollywood

According to SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – Federation of Television and Radio Artists of America = Federation of Television and Radio Artists of America), more and more people are picking up the pen to sign the agreements.

According to SAG-AFTRA, the main cause of the dispute was the union’s demand that all members working under the contract receive appropriate input, compensation and transparency regarding the use of artificial intelligence. With 49 companies already signing the terms, SAG-AFTRA said these new contracts include the same basic, common-sense AI protections that SAG-AFTRA members want in the Media Agreement Interactive, it shows that the arrangements are fair and workable. and provide work opportunities for members while they stop work.

“Protecting human actors from the use of AI is not an unreasonable demand – and the success of these deals shows that most companies agree. They are happy to accept basic ethical guidelines around this tool – along with fair accommodations – to collaborate with professional talent. And talent is just as willing and happy to work with companies that respect them,” said Sarah Elmaleh, Chair of the Interactive Media Contracts Negotiation Committee.

“We have signed over 120 contracts and there is no sign of things slowing down. As we return to negotiations tomorrow, I hope we can reach agreement on an interactive media agreement, but if not, we will continue to work with companies willing to accept fair, ethical contract terms and responsible, including the use of artificial intelligence,” he said.

Last week, SAG-AFTRA agreed to resume negotiations after three months of strikes and work stoppages. According to their statement, they will meet with the negotiating team, which includes representatives from Activision, Blindlight, Disney Character Voices, Electronic Arts, Formosa Interactive, Insomniac Games, Llama Productions, Take-Two and WB Games.

So the emotions can slowly calm down.
