The Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) is ending its 118-day strike at midnight (10 a.m. Thursday, Latvian time) after reaching an agreement with Disney, Netflix and other studios on a new labor contract that includes higher pay and protections against the use of artificial intelligence .
“In a unanimous vote this afternoon, the SAG-AFTRA Television/Theatrical Committee approved an interim agreement (..) that ends the 118-day strike,” a guild spokeswoman said.
The agreement has yet to be ratified, a process that could take several weeks.
Talks between the two sides had taken place almost daily for the past two weeks, often involving studio executives.
Due to the length of the strike, studios already have gaps in their production schedules for next year, while many actors have been forced to find additional work or leave the industry.
When SAG-AFTRA went on strike in mid-July, Hollywood screenwriters also went on strike, but their strike was called off after a contract dispute was resolved.
