“Safety Measures taken after Chemical Incident causes Passenger Train Traffic Interruption”

Precautionary measures have been taken to guarantee the safety of goods and people, indicates the prefecture in a press release: confinement of SNCF agents, power cut on site and partial interruption of train traffic.

The forty firefighters, including the cell specializing in chemical risks, were mobilized.

Passenger train traffic interrupted

The car whose structure was deformed did not show any leaks. To avoid any risk, an unloading operation (removal) of the soda lye it contains was planned before site operation could resume.

The circulation of passenger trains had to be interrupted south of Lyon.

Fabienne Buccio, prefect of the Rhône, praised the work of the rescue teams quickly engaged in this operation. “This work is fully in line with the risk prevention strategy, launched by the State with all the actors, to guarantee the surveillance and increased security of this sensitive site”, specifies the prefecture.
