“Safety and Accessibility for Students: Daughter of Charity School Receives Permission for Environmental Improvement Project”

As a prelude to a definitive free transfer, currently in process, the Seremi de Bienes Nacionales de Atacama, Mónica Marín, granted an occupation permit in favor of the Company of the Daughters of Charity of the San Vicente de Paul school; this, with respect to a public property of more than 3,000 square meters, located on Miguel Grau street between Ceferino Salinas and Covadonga, Population Ampliación Prat, commune of Copiapó, which is adjacent to said educational establishment.

The purpose of the authorization is to start a project to improve the environment, aimed at achieving universal accessibility for the establishment, considering regulated and safe spaces for pedestrians and vehicles, rest areas, green areas and lighting, thereby guaranteeing a benefit directly or indirectly for more than 700 families in the upper sectors.

After the delivery, Seremi Mónica Marín assured that she felt “comforted to fulfill the mandate of President Gabriel Boric, to provide greater security to the educational community of San Vicente de Paul, to the boys and girls and their families, as well as to the neighbors of the Ampliación Prat and Arturo Prat sector, so that they can have greater protection, both in access to the school, and in the protection of students who remain in the educational establishment ”.

The regional secretary indicated that the project “intends to recover public spaces through green areas and more lighting, providing adequate parking for the school vans that come to drop off and pick up the children and adolescents who are part of the educational community ”.

For his part, the director of the San Vicente de Paul school, Rigoberto Barrera, stressed that “we have been processing this project for many years, to make use of the land called ‘lot B’, which leads to Miguel Grau street, which It is where the school is located; Fundamentally, because we do not have formal access, and it is a large community, where many parents, children and vehicles come together. This permit helps us to regularize our access, and also to try to be a contribution to the environment of our populations, which are somewhat stigmatized due to security issues”.

Barrera argued that most of the students belong to nearby towns. “We have a high school vulnerability; at least 9 out of 10 students are in a vulnerable situation, and we serve 862 students, from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade, which means, more or less, serving 700 families in the sector”.

For all of the above, the teacher concluded, “we are really happy, especially for the management that has been done in this Government, through the people of the Ministry of National Assets, the courtesy of Mrs. Mónica Marín, to be with us , and give us this land use authorization document. Now we will campaign to fence, and start with this long-awaited dream that we have”.

It should be remembered that this Vincentian educational center works through a private-subsidized modality, but free of charge.
