Safe Campus operation implemented at Chula Vista school due to shooting threat – KSDY 50

A 15-year-old minor, unrelated to the institution, was arrested as the author of the threat

Chula Vista | The Chula Vista Police Department was notified by a Mater Dei High School staff member that they received a call from an unknown person threatening to commit a shooting at the school. School security personnel were aware and the school was immediately placed on Secure Campus, meaning no one can enter or leave the campus freely.

Officers responded with aerial support from a police drone. They worked alongside school staff to check the campus for active threats. At approximately 1:35 p.m., just over an hour after the call was received, the campus was determined to be safe and the operation was deactivated. School Resource Officers maintained a visible presence on campus during the school day.

Authorities are investigating the origin of the threatening call. Officers were able to identify the suspect as a 15-year-old minor whom they located in Chula Vista. The juvenile was placed under arrest around 3:05 pm for making the threatening call. The minor was not a student at Mater Dei High School.

The call was a hoax and both students and school staff were never in danger.
