#SAEDEL2024: wood of legal origin encouraged for public procurement – CRTV

This is the main message given at the Exhibition of Economic Actors and Local Development (Saedel) in Kribi by the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife on October 23, 2024.

It is a question for the ministry, according to Agnès Ndzana née Ngantou, exhibitor, of promoting the use and consumption of wood of legal origin for public order, “Because we noticed that a lot of wood delivered by certain service providers in public contracts and other orders placed by the State are of somewhat dubious origin.

Promote little-known species

Beyond the legal species to be favored, the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife also intends, during this festival, to present products that can be made from species that are little or not known, “Because it has been noted that there is strong pressure on noble species which are already disappearing,” explains the official. “It is therefore a question of the public being informed of these species which are little or not known and which can be very well promoted,” she underlines.

In addition to these wood productsvisitors can also find, in the stand of the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife, non-timber forest products, including those commonly called Okok or Eru, Moabi or even Djangsan. Next door, products resulting from their transformations such as shea butter, djangsan oil and even moabi butter.

Alongside the stands which showcase the products that promote local artisans, conferences are also held on the functioning of decentralized local authorities (CTD). It is in this sense, for example, that the Urban Community of Douala (CUD) focused its conference on the theme of intercommunity and local development.
