Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Russian offensive had turned the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut into “burning ruins”. Not only that, but the Ukrainian military has also reported rocket, rocket and drone strikes in various parts of the country that have killed civilians and destroyed critical infrastructure.
According to Al Jazeera, Zelenskyy said on Saturday (12/10/2022), the situation “remains very difficult” in several frontline cities in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk provinces.
“Bakhmut, Soledar, Maryinka, Kreminna. For a long time, there is no dwelling left on the land in this area that hasn’t been damaged by bullets and fire,” Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address, mentioning the cities that were returning to come under sustained Russia attack, quoted on Sunday (12/11/2022).
“The invaders completely destroyed Bakhmut, another city in Donbas that was turned into burning ruins by the Russian army,” he said.
Zelenskyy also said more than 1.5 million people were without electricity in the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa after a nighttime drone strike.
“After the Iranian drone strike at night, Odessa and other cities and villages in the region are in darkness,” Zelenskyy said.
“To date, more than one and a half million people in the Odessa region are without electricity.”
The Ukrainian military also reported Saturday raids in other provinces: Kharkiv and Sumy in the northeast, Dnipropetrovsk in central Ukraine, Zaporizhia in the southeast and Kherson in the south.
About 20 air strikes and more than 60 rocket attacks hit targets across Ukraine between Friday and Saturday, the Ukrainian army general staff said earlier.
Writing on Telegram, Zelenskyy’s deputy bureau chief Kyrylo Tymoshenko said two civilians had been killed and eight others wounded in dozens of mortar, rocket and artillery attacks the previous day. Residential areas, hospitals, shops, warehouses and other important infrastructure in the Kherson region have been damaged, he said.
