Sadistic! Members gang in Haiti killed 12 people and burned houses in a small town near Port-au-Prince, the capital Haiti. This is the latest incident in a series of deadly attacks in the violence-torn Caribbean nation.
The news agency reports it AFP extensionThursday (1/12/2022), the police and residents evicted the gangster from the town of Cabaret north of Port-au-Prince a few days ago, but they returned and attacked Tuesday evening (11/29) local time, Mayor Joseph Jeanson Guillaume said.
“We found several charred bodies this morning,” the mayor told AFP.
The powerful and well-armed gangs that control most of Haiti have been targeting the city of Cabaret for months.
Guillaume said the Cabaret was along a main road, meaning attacks on the city would disrupt traffic and commerce.
For years, Haiti it has faced security, economic and health crises. This situation has been exacerbated by the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in 2021, with the gangs only getting stronger.
The country is also struggling with a cholera epidemic. According to the United Nations, around 100,000 people have fled their homes to escape the violence in the past year armed gangs.
Haiti’s police force, which has only about 13,000 officers, according to UN data, or about one police officer for every 1,000 population, is not sufficient to deal with the gangs.
Last month, Haiti’s government officially requested international assistance to help it overcome its security crisis.
