Sadayam directed by CB Malayalam is one of the best movies released in Malayalam. M. Malayalees saw Mohanlal’s magnificent performance in the film scripted by T Vasudevan.
The climax of the film was Mohanlal’s character being hanged. The film, which is full of big discussions even today, was not well received at the box office.
CB Malail says that the common audience must have thought that Mohanlal would escape at the end of the film and that is why the film failed. He was speaking to contemporary Malayalam.
“Someone close to me said that if Mohanlal somehow escapes from that rope and jumps out of jail, the film will be a super hit. I said it was not going to happen. How did he escape from the hanging rope?
Many thought that something would finally happen and he would escape. Common audience thinks that Mohanlal will not die. That may be the reason why the film was not accepted then. ‘Sadayam’ is the most talked about film these days,’ says CB Malail.
He added that the fate of the heroes in his films like Kirathan and Taniyavartan were similar.
Sethumadhavan in the crown is a man who walks in fear. He knows he is a big hooligan only after he unknowingly beats up someone. Then he tries to move away. Setumadhavan will never have the courage to do that.
In the pre-climax scene, the hero tells his companion that I am leaving the country. The same is the case with self-reflection. One who is willing to submit to fate. That was the same problem that Sadayam had,’ said CB Malail.
