The number of deaths in New York has reached a new sad record. On Tuesday, 779 people died as a result of the coronavirus within 24 hours.
“I would never have believed that we would have as many deaths in one day as in 9/11”
“We have a new record of deaths,” said Cuomo. “I saw September 11th. I would never have believed that we would have so many dead in one day,” said the governor. There is currently a flattening of the curve of new infections. “It’s a blessing, but that doesn’t mean we have peaked,” said Cuomo. He warned New Yorkers to continue to adhere to the restrictions.
In some of the hospitals in the Brooklyn borough hardest hit by the pandemic, the bodies of the corona dead have to be housed in specially rented refrigerated trucks. Space in the morgues of the hospitals is running out.
New York has more deaths than Spain
The state of New York – the hardest hit region in the United States – now has more cases than any state in the world, according to Reuters count. With 149,316 known infections, it overtakes Spain with 146,690. In the US as a whole, there are more than 417,000 cases and 14,100 deaths.
