Sad Friendship Story: Couple Paid 3.2 Million IDR for Friend’s Birthday but Not Invited to the Main Event

A sad friendship story was experienced by a couple who attended a friend’s birthday party by paying IDR 3.2 million. But apparently, they weren’t even invited to the main event.

A husband and wife complain about what happened to them. Reporting from mirror.co.uk, Saturday (27/5/2023), they were asked to pay around IDR 3.2 million to attend a friend’s birthday party.

At first they were happy to pay for her best friend’s 40th birthday. They hope there is a festive night in the celebration.

Until finally, on the day of the celebration, they were surprised when the guests left the party they were attending. Turns out other guests were invited to attend ‘afterparty’ which they do not know.

Now, the couple feels they were only used to fill out the guest list at the first event, considering they didn’t belong at a ‘real’ party.

The incident started when one of the couples was disappointed to share his story with Mums net. He explained “We are a married couple and we have friends. We often invite them to our house and are very friendly to them in our house,” he said.

Itself shares the context with the user Mums net, that their friend did have a close circle of friends living near them and the group met regularly. However, they didn’t mind about it before. “We are all adults,” he said. He said it was fine.

Until finally the couple questioned that they were not invited from their friend’s birthday party which was held at his house. “Matt recently invited us to Eva’s 40th birthday, where we were asked to turn up at a fancy venue for a surprise party and paid 100 Euros each to be part of it,” she wrote. .

“We were so happy to do this, we came early for a surprise, and paid a total of 200 Euros (Rp. 3.2 million) for us to join the party, brought gifts and wished him well,” he added.

The problem arose when the party they attended had finished even though it was still 8pm. The timing, which the couple thought was a little odd, considering the event was being held on a weekend. But the two of them originally didn’t think much of it.

When the couple tried to find Matt to say goodbye, he saw no where was the party owner. So they called him, and this is where they learned that Matt and the other guests had other agendas that night.

A select number of guests have been invited back to the couple’s home for a follow-up party and Matt is on his way there to prepare the party.

“So Matt invited us to his wife’s surprise party which we paid 200 euros for. We couldn’t refuse because it’s an important birthday. But he didn’t invite us to a ‘real’ party which took place from 8pm and up at their house,” the post explained.

“Am I overreacting to be annoyed that we’ve just been invited to ‘fill in the number’ for a surprise at a fancy place, but not asked to come to their home?,” the author asked.

“I understand that they would prefer to have an after-party with their real friends, but it hurts a bit that we were only invited to splash (and money) in a prestigious venue,” he added.

Knowing this incident, some netizens gave their various reactions, many of them regretted the incident.

“Ouch, I’m going to be really hurt by this, they throw a party and expect people to pay to be there, I find that very odd. They are more like taking advantage, I hope you won’t invite them to your next dinner party!” someone wrote.

On the other hand, some are surprised to hear of the 100 euros (Rp 1.6 million) per person that needs to be spent. “What did you get for your money? Hope it’s not used to subsidize their other guests,” one person replied.

“It was a package with drinks and food, with sharing plates together, I wouldn’t describe it as dinner. But that’s not really the case,” wrote the creator of the post.

“I hope you get 200 Euros worth of snacks and drinks. Lesson learned sounds horrible,” one person commented.
