Sad day, my friend and my opponent, I wish he didn’t come!

After announcing his retirement, world tennis star Rafael Nadal sent a heartwarming message to his archenemy Roger Federerwhere they formed a historic duo in the game of tennis years ago.

In a tweet on his Twitter account, the famous Spanish player wished this day hadn’t come.

Addressing his arch-friend, he wrote: “My friend and bitter enemy, it is a sad day for me personally and for the world of sport in general.”

He added: “It has also been a pleasure and an honor to compete with you all these years, as we have shared wonderful moments both on and off the pitch.”

Furthermore, he concluded that they will meet on many occasions in the future, wishing Roger, his wife and his children happiness and joy.

The injuries hindered him

Veteran Swiss tennis player Roger Federer announced his retirement on Thursday, saying next week’s Laver Cup would be his last tournament, closing a 24-year golden era of more than 1,500 games.

In recent years, injuries have hampered Federer’s career, who dominated men’s tennis after winning his first major title at Wimbledon 2003.

He has undergone three surgeries in the past two years and his last match in the professional leagues was Hubert Hurkacz’s defeat in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2021.
