Sacbo: ‘Orio al Serio airport reopened’

(ANSA) – MILAN, 01 OCT – The runway at Bergamo airport, in Orio al Serio, was reopened at 7.30 pm. This was communicated by Sacbo, the management company of the Bergamo airport. Operations resumed regularly. The airport was closed due to the runway being damaged by the explosion of the rear tires of a Ryanair Boeing during landing this morning at 8am. Operations resumed regularly with the landing of the Norwegian flight arriving from Helsinki. The runway – recalls Sacbo – “has been closed since 8:00 in the morning because it was made unusable for a length of 450 meters by the explosion of the four tires of the rear landing gear during the landing phase of Ryanair flight FR 846, coming from Barcelona El Prat . No consequences for the 161 passengers and crew members.” The pavement restoration works were carried out after the removal of the aircraft that remained stationary on the runway, thanks to the intervention of specialized technicians under the supervision of Sacbo personnel and the Fire Brigade. We then proceeded with the milling of the damaged pavement, the asphalting and the restoration of the horizontal signs, followed by the acceptance tests of the runway which allowed flight operations to resume. “In just over six hours, work was carried out that would normally require much more time – underlines Giovanni Sanga, president of Sacbo – Excellent team work, which began with the immediate intervention of the Fire Brigade and the contribution of the technical and operational staff of Sacbo, as well as of the specialized companies in charge. To the waiting passengers, many of whom had to give up the journey, our solidarity and thanks for their understanding handling company at the airport. Sense of gratitude to the police forces present at the airport and to those who carry out their work in the airport services”. (HANDLE).
