Kochi: A film directed by Sabu Pravdas is titled ‘Otayadipathakal’. But he traveled many paths in the film industry. Sabu, who came from setting the stage to the leadership of the film organization, is finally leaving with the state government’s award for the best film essay.
Sabu was introduced to art through his father. Pravdas was a famous advertising agency in Kochi. Sabu’s father Sukumaran was the owner of it. He was known as Pravada Sukumaran. Kalur Govt. High School, Malyankara S.N.M. After completing his education in college, Sabu joined his father’s Pravadas and entered the film industry.
His debut in art direction was with Joshi. It later became the beginning of a great partnership. Sabu was the art director of Joshi’s major films. Coincidentally, the last film was also with the director of the first film.

Sabu’s excellence in tasks ranging from finding locations for filming to setting up stage sets at a low cost has made Sabu a unique talent in the field. He also created beautiful advertisement designs for many films under the names Grand Ads, Ashwin Ads, Sabu Pravdas etc. But he never tried to become a full-time filmmaker. Friends recall that the reason he was unable to become a busy artist in the field was that his regular job at the Indian Aluminum Company was inconvenient for his work in the film industry.
He has been active since the formation of MACTA and FEFCA, organizations of film technicians.
He always kept his undying love for cinema inside. Sabu, who was the owner of a collection of about ten thousand foreign films, carefully studied the advanced techniques of the film industry and imparted them to the students. He had a wide circle of friends as he held everyone close to his heart.
