Early models of PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSDs were unable to achieve the doubling of performance promised by the new standard compared to PCIe 4.0 drives. However, SSD manufacturers continue to improve their solutions. For example, Sabrent is developing Rocket X5 drives that will provide read speeds of more than 14,000 MB/s, almost twice as fast as the PCIe 4.0 standard.

It is known that these newcomers will use Micron’s 232-layer B58R NAND flash memory chips, as well as the Phison E26 controller. This combination will provide data transfer rates for each and eight memory channels up to 2400 MT / s.

The manufacturer showed the test results of the Rocket X5 2 TB drive in the CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4 utility. The novelty has reached a sequential read speed of 14,179 MB / s. The sequential write speed, in turn, was 12,280 MB / s. The performance figures for random reads and writes of 4K data blocks were also high.

The novelty will be equipped with an active cooling system, consisting of an aluminum radiator and a compact fan, which will definitely create additional noise in the PC.

The cost of Sabrent Rocket X5 drives is not yet known, as is information on when they will go on sale.
