Sáblíková Prepares for Key Season Races After Overcoming Groin Injury

“I used the break without races to heal my groin, the injury from Tomaszów. Of course, I honestly trained for it, then it was possible without restrictions, which was good,” said Sáblíková in a recording for the media. She competed in Poland in December despite problems with a pulled hamstring and finished sixth. But she changed the next planned program.

At the beginning of January, coach Petr Novák’s ward was therefore absent from the continental championship in Heerenveen and was preparing for a key part of the season overseas. From Salt Lake City, she will then move to the next part of the SP in Québec, and then the world championships on individual tracks await her in Calgary. “I’m already looking forward to the next races,” said Sáblíková.

She was also looking forward to Salt Lake City because she set the world record for 3000 meters here in March 2019. “We’ll see what the track will be like. It looks decent so far, but it will depend on the pressure, on the weather. The Four Continents Championship was held here last week and it didn’t look bad at all. We’ll see how it will look now,” said Sáblíková, who is second in the long-distance SP standings, 36 points behind the leader, Norwegian Ragne Wiklund.
