Sabalenka (WTA 11) defeated Elize Mertens (21st) from Belgium, who is her doubles partner, in the final two-racket duel of the final tournament with 7-5, 6-2.
Sabalenka has won nine games in a row since she triumphed in the WTA Premier in Ostrava in October. She also won in Doha this season, but in total the Belarusian has won eight WTA trophies during her career.
“This is a great way to end the season so I can relax and then start preparing for next year. I will continue to work to keep that level next season,” said Sabalenko, who will return to the top ten next week.
The tournament in Linz was the last competition on the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) calendar, as the end-of-season tournament was canceled.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Italian Jannik Siners, who became the youngest ATP champion since 2008, when the then 18-year-old Kei Nišikori won the tournament in Delribeach, won the winners of the ATP World Tour in Sofia on Saturday.
Siners (ATP 44) defeated Canadian Vasek Pospisil in the final with 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7: 3).
Siners came into the spotlight this season when Alexander Zverev was stopped in the eighth final of the French Open. The Italian tennis player is the winner of last year’s ATP new talent tournament or “NextGen”.
