The state government has approved the Ministry of Education and Culture (MBK) proposal for Saarland holiday regulations for school years 25/2024 to 30/2029.
According to this, the carnival holidays in the Saarland should be preserved, unlike in Rhineland-Palatinate. The decision of the Council of Ministers is now followed by the so-called external hearing. Interest groups and associations can submit declarations on the proposal within a period of four weeks.
Education Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot: “The new multi-year holiday regulations create planning security for children, young people, families and our school teams. We therefore move within the framework specified by the Conference of Ministers of Education. , we want large overlaps with our neighboring state of Rhineland-Palatinate during the holidays and the teaching periods between individual holidays should not be too long.
The proposal now adopted provides for teaching periods of the same length as possible between the individual holiday periods. Continuous teaching periods longer than 10 weeks are avoided. At the same time, a common central week and identical summer holidays with Rhineland-Palatinate will be maintained in as many holiday periods as possible. Unlike in Rhineland-Palatinate, carnival celebrations in the Saarland should be preserved. The proposed new holiday regulation also allows the greatest possible flexibility in planning and scheduling central examinations.
The proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MBK) for Saarland holiday regulations for the school years 2024/25 to 2029/30 was preceded, inter alia, by consultations with the entire state representation of parents and the main staff councils of all types of schools. The Saarland State Student Council (LSV) was also invited.
Now follows the so-called external hearing: interest groups and associations can submit their official statements on the proposal within a period of four weeks. After that, the state government will make the final decision.
