Saad Hariri won’t support anyone and Ashraf Rifi is trying to win back the Sunni electorate

Returning to Lebanon this Sunday on the occasion of the annual commemoration of the assassination of his father, former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, Saad Hariri reiterated his desire to boycott the next legislative elections from the Center House, in the presence of deputies of the Future Movement parliamentary bloc.

For the sake of fraternity and friendship, the situation is very difficult and I do not advise any of you to stand for election. And if any of you decide to do so, do so on your own behalf and under your personal responsibility, and none of you expect me to post a position of support, that whether politically, organizationally or financially.

He also asked his former running mates not to use the name of the Courant du Futur or to organize political activities but independently if they thus intended to present their candidacies in the next legislative elections scheduled for next May.

This meeting is to confirm that I am not forcing anyone to do anything, but I refuse that you engage in any right in the name of the Future Movement or in the name of Saad Hariri.

This information comes as rumours, denied by the main party, former Prime Minister Fouad Saniora, indicate that the latter could lead the electoral battle within the Sunni community in Beirut itself. Saad Hariri would have personally advised against this, in response to questions from journalists after the meeting of the parliamentary bloc of the current of the future.

As a reminder, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced at the end of January that he will not be a candidate in the next legislative elections, some close to him having indicated that this decision would have been motivated by financial concerns to finance his electoral campaign as well as that of its Movement of the Future, founded by the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. This decision by the former Prime Minister was in a way expected, after his various companies, including those linked to his electoral machine, went bankrupt one after the other, a bit like the chain of the Future, still blocked in the rebroadcast of old series and old games or even the end of the publication of the newspaper Al Moustakbal or the DailyStar in English in which he was also a shareholder. If the reactivation of its media resources was mentioned in the event of an application, it now seems that the reopening of these resources has been postponed indefinitely.

In addition, the former Minister of the Interior Ashraf Rifi, a personality considered close to Saudi Arabia, estimated that the current of the future has lost the Sunni electorate on the airwaves of MTV Lebanon.

the Sunni community is prolific and needs new leadership to protect its identity and homeland; I am optimistic and I support the departure of Prime Minister Hariri; I am one of those who supported the suspension of his work in politics since 2017, but this opportunity was missed
