The end of the winter transfer phase on January 31st is approaching and they are completely relaxed at SV Atlas Delmenhorst. After a first half of the season full of personnel concerns, those responsible for the top league football team are currently very satisfied with the overall situation.
Is anyone else leaving the club?
Eugen Uschpol has said goodbye for professional reasons and terminated his contract. The 25-year-old moved from TuS Sulingen to Delmenhorst before the season and played eleven competitive games for Atlas. He was primarily planned for the left side of the defense. The blue-yellow team is well staffed there with winter signing Ibrahim Temin and Philipp Eggert, who has just returned to training after spraining his ankle. “So we don’t need to get a replacement for Eugen,” says sports director Bastian Fuhrken.

Is there another entry coming?
“As of now, there are no more plans for a transfer,” explains Fuhrken. The squad is well staffed in all positions and the competition is fierce. There are always rumors about the return of midfielder Willem Hoffrogge, who has been without a club for six months. “We are in regular contact, but nothing is currently planned,” says Fuhrken. Hoffrogge is currently trying to recommend himself to other clubs as a guest player.
What about the goalkeeper position?
Since regular goalkeeper Damian Schobert was initially unavailable, there was at least the idea of bringing in a new goalkeeper. According to Fuhrken, the issue has been resolved. Schobert had to have a metal plate removed from a finger from a previous operation. He has now started training again. “Things are looking good for him,” reports Fuhrken. Schobert is set to make his comeback in the friendly against regional league team SSV Jeddeloh next Saturday (1 p.m.). With Joel Kletta and Kilian Sanden, who was brought up from the district league team, two more young goalkeepers are available. “The two of them are doing their job very well,” says Fuhrken.
How is goalkeeper training organized?
Tobias Duffner wants to return between the posts at the age of 40 and has moved to the regional league team Bremer SV. SV Atlas was therefore somewhat surprisingly without a goalkeeping coach, but has now found a solution. The club works with the goalkeeping school “MZ Goalkeeping” from Oldenburg. Behind it are Sebastian Mielitz, ex-professional from Werder Bremen and currently under contract with regional league club VfB Oldenburg, and Jannik Zohrabian, ex-goalkeeper for VfL Oldenburg.
“MZ Goalkeeping” will provide a goalkeeper trainer once a week, says Fuhrken. That could be Mielitz or Zohrabian, but there were also other coaches at the goalkeeping school. Assistant coach and former goalkeeper Florian Urbainski also takes over goalkeeping training once a week. “So we are well positioned until the summer. Then we’ll see what happens next,” Fuhrken looks ahead.
What will happen to guest player Kaan Er?
Kaan Er has been a guest at SV Atlas since last summer. After his long-term knee injury, he was slowly introduced to training. The Delmenhorst native, who was trained at Werder and was a Turkish youth national team player, is now training full-time. It is quite possible that SV Atlas will sign the clubless 21-year-old, says Fuhrken. “There are still discussions going on. He has to decide what he wants. We are very well staffed in the tenth position with Mustafa Azadzoy and Tom Trebin. If Kaan is better, of course he will play. But it may also be that he only must collect once in the second match practice.”
What is the goal for the rest of the season?
Head coach Dominik Schmidt boldly declared that he still has his sights on first place despite being nine points behind. Sports director Fuhrken says: “We are all aggressive.” He is primarily looking at second place, which would entitle him to take part in a promotion game against the worst non-relegated team in the Regionalliga Nord. Tenth-placed Atlas is currently eight points behind second place. “We want to roll up the field from behind and get to the cup final,” says Fuhrken, setting the course.
Are there a risk of further game cancellations?
SV Atlas is scheduled to start the 2024 competitive season with a home game against FSV Schöningen on Saturday, February 3rd. “It looks good that we can play,” says Fuhrken. “The grass field in the stadium has dried well and can now be worked on with equipment.”
