The sad news of Paul Cattermole, the former S Club 7 star, passing away at the age of 46 has left fans of the popular 90s pop group devastated. Millions of fans around the world grew up singing and dancing to their catchy tunes, and Paul was a vital member of the band, entertaining fans with his mesmerizing voice and energetic performances. This news comes as a shock to both fans of the band and the music industry as a whole. In this article, we take a closer look at the life and legacy of Paul Cattermole, reflecting on his impact on music and the cultural significance of S Club 7.
Paul Cattermole, the former member of popular British pop group S Club 7, has died at the age of 46. His family released a statement confirming that he was found dead at his home in Dorset on Thursday, though no cause of death has been given. Police also confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. S Club 7 released a statement paying tribute to their former band member, saying that “We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel.” They asked for privacy for both the band and Cattermole’s family at this time.
Cattermole was born in Hertfordshire and shot to fame as a part of S Club 7, which was formed by Svengali Simon Fuller. The group was initially aimed at a younger audience and the members starred in a children’s TV show, Miami 7. The band’s first single, Bring It All Back, followed soon after, setting off a string of chart-topping hits. Cattermole later left the band and they split up in 2003.
In 2015, the full band reunited for an arena tour and announced earlier this year that they would be reuniting once again for a tour that was set to begin in October. Cattermole had reportedly been photographed in good spirits walking outdoors the day before his death.
The singer was open about the difficulties he faced following the band’s success. He had been declared bankrupt before the 2015 reunion and was forced to sell the Brit award the band had won in 2000 for Best British Newcomer. The award was put up for auction on eBay and sold for over £66,000.
After leaving S Club 7, Cattermole formed a new band called Skua, which was not successful. He later reunited with two other members of the band to form S Club 3, who performed live across the UK but did not release any new music.
In recent years, Cattermole had worked in various jobs in Dorset, including as a community radio manager. He also provided tarot card readings and offered his services as a “psychic, clairvoyant and spirit coach”.
Cattermole had a relationship with S Club 7 band member Hannah Spearritt from 2001 to 2006, after a romance between the two was written into the TV show Hollywood 7.
Tributes have been pouring in for Cattermole, including from TV host Lorraine Kelly, who described him as a “lovely man”.
