Ryzen latency problems under Windows 11 did not disappear, just replace the CPU

Hardware Unboxed so in a series of tweets it reports that the given problem concerns the case when we install Windows 11 on a PC with, for example, a Ryzen 9 5950X processor and then replace it with a Ryzen 7 5800X or simply another processor from AMD. At that moment, the problem with high latencies of the L3 cache reappears, and according to later posts, it is also the main operational memory. As a result, in such a case, the game performance should be even 10 to 20 percent lower. –

Of course, the average user does not switch processors like socks on his PC, but this is mainly about how this fact can affect reviews that will be able to be published this Thursday. It is when testing processors that no one will bother to reinstall the system to test each individual piece, because there is usually no reason to do so.

AMD’s Microsoftem At the same time, it recently prepared patches that were supposed to solve the high memory latencies of Ryzen processors under Windows 11, but they probably do not work 100% and it is necessary to ask why the problem reappears just after replacing the processor. –

But there is no need to look for Intel’s conspiracy with Microsoft right away, because according to the same source, it may look more like a problem with radeon drivers. If the author uninstalled them, the latencies returned to their original values. However, the experienced PC user will not be surprised by the fact that it is then possible to install the drivers again, but the system must not be reset, otherwise the latency will increase again. In this way, the Adrenalin 21.10.4 drivers were tested, and the same problem applies to older 21.10.2 drivers.

What does this mean for us? This is a nightmare for reviewers, and others should be aware that the test results of Alder Lake-S processors will probably be very ambiguous and inconsistent. This time, it will not be enough to just look at the graphs with the results, but it will be necessary to get thoroughly acquainted with the test settings and whether its author knew about possible problems and was able to prevent them. There is also the question of whether this matter will also apply to GeForce systems, when it is obviously connected in some way to Radeon graphics drivers.

Finally, we have one bead, namely a comparison of the graphs with the game performance that Intel presented at the advent of Rocket Lake-S and Alder Lake-S.

We can see how the Rocket Lake-S performance in the new chart suddenly moves below the Ryzen 5000 processors (here 5900X and 5950X), so Intel basically retrospectively acknowledged that the competition is more powerful, although it tried to convince us otherwise this year. And this is the reason why it is necessary to take such tests with great reserve and that it is always a careful selection of opponents and test environment (games).
