Ryszard Terlecki on a project to increase the salaries of parliamentarians and key officials

It is a joint decision of all parliamentary clubs to settle this problem, which has been growing for years, said Ryszard Terlecki, the deputy speaker of the Sejm and the head of the parliamentary club of Law and Justice. He referred to the bill to increase the salaries of parliamentarians and top state officials.

On Thursday evening, MPs from the Sejm’s regulatory, parliamentary and immunity committee unanimously adopted the bill, which includes, inter alia, increasing the salaries of parliamentarians. The salary is to be calculated on the basis of the basic salary of a judge of the Supreme Court, and not – as before – of an undersecretary of state. The project also includes a salary for the first lady or the first gentleman.

Terlecki: a joint decision to settle a problem that has been growing over the years

Ryszard Terlecki, when asked on Friday in the parliamentary corridor, why this decision on pay rises, replied that “it is a joint decision of all parliamentary clubs to settle this problem that has been growing for years”.

– It consists, among other things, in the fact that judges of the Supreme Court earn more than the president or prime minister. This, however, is unacceptable with the tripartite division of power, he assessed.

Note from the reporter that although there is never a good opportunity for a raise, it right now there is an economic crisis, admitted that “there is never a good one”. “There is a crisis in every way,” he added.

– Over the years, since salaries in the Sejm have changed, salaries in the budget have increased by 28 percent, so at least we are adjusting to this level – he said.
