Hovland and Åberg win their match!

Hovland with a precise chip in from the bunker, and then it’s no problem. Together with Swedish Ludvig Åberg, they do the work in a foursome.

– The first match here has been completely childish, says Viaplay expert and golfer Espen Kofstad.

McIlroy/Fleetwood beat Schauffele/Cantlay on the 11th hole, and are two holes up with it. Smells 4-0 to Europe!

Åberg increases the lead with a good putt

Beautifully set up by Hovland on the 14th hole, and Åberg is thankful for it. Sinks the putt, and thus they are four holes up with four holes to go!

Hovland/Åberg again play equally with Homa/Harman. Three holes up still after 13 holes.

Rahm with a strong putt on the 14th hole, which keeps him and Hatton tied with Scheffler/Burns. Rahm/Hatton are thus four holes up with four holes left in the round. The European duo cannot therefore lose the match.

Untidy hole ten by both McIlroy/Fleetwood and Schauffele/Cantlay, but they end up playing the hole the same anyway. The European duo still lead by one hole.

Hovland escapes with horror

Viktor Hovland abuses a short birdie putt on the 12th hole, but when Max Homa does the same soon after the hole is shared. Hovland/Åberg still three holes up.

Schauffele/Cantlay take advantage of the opportunity to reduce on hole nine, a long par five holes. As mentioned, McIlroy hit the water there, and now he and Fleetwood only lead by one hole. By far the most exciting duel right now.

Rahm/Hatton win their second straight tie against Scheffler/Burns, and are four holes up with six holes to go. It looks very good for Europe to collect the first point.

Hovland makes the putt

Viktor Hovland makes a short putt after a brilliant input by Ludvig Åberg on the 11th hole. They play the hole the same as the Americans, and thus they are still three holes up.

Rahm/Hatton extend their lead to three holes against Scheffler/Burns on the 11th hole, while Fowler/Morikawa cut to three holes behind Lowry/Straka on the 10th hole.

McIlroy in the water

Today’s first in the water from the European waters. Rory McIlroy sending the action in the wet element on hole nine. Good opportunity for Schauffele/Cantlay to recover a hole below.

The Europeans increase their leads

Both Lowry/Straka and McIlroy/Fleetwood increase their leads against Fowler/Morikawa and Schauffele/Cantlay respectively. The former now leads by four holes at the halfway point, while the latter is two holes ahead after eight. This is undeniably looking very good for Team Europa.

Crazy hit by Rahm

The Spaniard sends the input straight into the hole on the tenth hole! It’s not enough to win the hole though, as Scheffler putst to play the hole for par. Still two hole lead to Rahm/Hatton over Scheffler/Burns.

Åberg/Hovland up to a three-hole lead

On hole nine, Ludvig Åberg finally makes a good putt! With that, the Swede and Norwegian lead by three holes against Homa/Harman halfway through the round.

Marco Simone-banen i Italy

This year the Ryder Cup is played on the Marco Simone course, which is located about an hour outside the center of Rome in a north-east direction.

The track is owned by fashion heiress Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna.

At the Marco Simone track there is a castle from the 12th century. The name derives from Simone del Tebaldi who owned the castle in the 16th century and who renovated it extensively.

The famous physicist Galileo Galilei lived there for a while in the 17th century. The castle has 50 rooms.

Great that you follow Ryder Cup! Just a small clarification, they may lead by three holes, not three strokes.

Thanks for that, Nicolai. Changed now!

Morikawa i vannet

The first in the water of the day is the American Collin Morikawa, who is on the eighth hole. Gift package for Lowry/Straka to increase the lead to three holes, and the Irishman and the Austrian do not let that chance pass them by. Three in front after eight.
