Ryazan residents were told why uncontrolled intake of antibiotics is dangerous

Irina Shirokova, a clinical pharmacologist at Ryazan Hospital No. 4, said that recently people have been trying to prescribe antibiotics on their own, not only for treatment, but also for prevention. “Uncontrolled intake of antibiotics can have unpredictable consequences for human health and life,” said Shirokova.

Ryazan residents were told why uncontrolled intake of antibiotics is dangerous. The information was posted by the regional Ministry of Health.

The doctor drew attention to the fact that antibacterial drugs or antibiotics do not work on viruses, including the causative agent COVID 19.

“The appointment of antibiotic therapy to patients with ARVI or coronavirus is justified only if there are convincing signs of a bacterial infection, which can only be determined by a doctor. Changes in the lungs in COVID-19 are caused by a virus, not bacteria, ”the specialist noted.

According to the doctor, the consequences of uncontrolled intake of antibiotics are dangerous. They can cause toxic damage to the liver, kidneys, hematopoietic organs, neuritis of the auditory nerve, allergies, tendon ruptures, and, in combination with certain drugs, lead to the development of severe cardiac arrhythmias.
