VIENNA – The London-Trieste flight today 21 October was diverted to the Austrian capital. The reason would be attributable, as stated by the pilot in the announcement of the change of destination, to a “technical problem” relating to the use of the radar. The diversion of the flight (operated by Lauda on behalf of Ryanair) was decided a few minutes after landing on the runway of Trieste Airport, affected by particularly difficult weather conditions. The passengers are expected to spend the night in Vienna. A flight, operated by the same company, should bring the almost 200 people back to Ronchi airport tomorrow. As a result of the missed landing, the flight from Ronchi to London was also cancelled.
Update at 1.44am
The decision to change final destination was taken not a few minutes after landing (as previously written), but between Munich and Salzburg. U-turn on the flight back to Trieste. Some buses should be made available. At the airport in Vienna there are also elderly people, children and babies. The airport delivered water to passengers.
