Ryanair has to state optional check-in fee in booking

Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – According to a judgment, the airline Ryanair has to point out during the booking process that in the event of a short-term check-in at the counter, fees of 55 euros will be incurred. This was enforced by the German competition center in a process at the Frankfurt Regional Court (Az 3-06 O 7/20), as the judiciary confirmed on Tuesday. In the judgment, which was not yet final, the court found that the airline’s previous references to the general terms and conditions (GTC) were insufficient. It is also not enough for Ryanair to point out the possibility of free online check-in to its customers two days before departure up to two hours before departure.

The costs for such optional standard services would have to be communicated transparently to the customer, commented attorney Peter Breun-Goerke from the competition headquarters. “The price or the cost of a flight are an essential parameter in the highly competitive environment. If cheating is done here by hiding price components, the competition is impaired to the detriment of the rule-compliant providers.”
