Ryanair Adjusts Passenger Expectations Due to Capacity Issues – Ticket Prices Expected to Rise

In the coming summer season, ticket prices at Ryanair could be up to ten percent higher than last summer. CEO Michael O’Leary has warned about this. His airline is experiencing capacity problems, now that deliveries of the new Boeings have been delayed.

The number of available aircraft is limited, meaning European airlines will struggle to meet demand for travel during peak season, according to O’Leary.

Ryanair initially expected to carry 205 million passengers from April this year to March next year, compared to 183.5 million in the year to March 2024. “With fewer aircraft we may have to reduce that number from 205 to 200 million passengers,” said O’Leary in Dublin. “It could be just under 200 million, we don’t know that yet. That probably means that even our growth will be limited in Europe this year, and I think that will lead to higher ticket prices across Europe for next summer.”

In the summer of 2023, rates already increased by seventeen percent. “We will not see such an increase this year,” O’Leary expects. “We assume an increase of five to ten percent in our budgets, which seems reasonable to me. It could be more, it could be less – we don’t really know.”

Fewer Boeing aircraft

Ryanair has ordered 57 new planes from Boeing, which should be delivered by March next year. However, the Irish expect to have received only 40 to 45 aircraft by then. According to O’Leary, the American aviation watchdog is “on the neck” of Boeing after a panel fell from a Boeing 737 Max 9 in mid-flight at the beginning of this year.
