Ryanair: 3,500 jobs away without agreement on cut wages

“We are looking at 20 percent less for the highest-paid captains to 5 percent less for the lowest-paid flight attendants. We think that if we can negotiate those cut wages in concert, we can avoid most, but not all, of the job losses,” said O. Leary.

The Irish budget airline has only flew very limited in recent months, but is recovering from today (July 1) about 40 percent of the capacity and 90 percent of the routes. Ryanair is counting on 4.5 million passengers this month. There is also much more flying from Eindhoven Airport.

Update 16:00: Ryanair’s British pilots have agreed to a 20 percent salary cut. As a result, according to pilots union BALPA, 260 jobs can be preserved that would otherwise disappear. The salary is gradually restored over a period of four years.
